Program Description

GOING HOME TO IRELAND: EXPERIENCING THE IRISH DIASPORA THROUGH DIRECT EXPERIENCE, GREAT LITERATURE AND NATION-BUILDING CINEMA

Students will learn about major Irish writers and some American writers with Irish influence. They learn about the influence Ireland has had on the development of an American identity through literature and film. They will visit sights described in the texts. They will learn about the history of Irish immigration to America and about the concept of a racial or ethnic diaspora, which is the dispersion of one culture from a home country into other parts of the world.
