Program Description

CHILD DEVELOPMENT IN THE CONTEXT OF EASTERN EUROPE

Medieval towns and castles, baroque churches, wars, communism, transition to democracy... See firsthand how these places and events affected children and their families. We will stay in the very center of Prague, a beautiful city with rich history and culture. Classes will take place at the Charles University, the oldest university in central Europe, and will include both UAB and Czech students. Class field trips will take us to multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites - the Prague castle and Jewish town, Ceský Krumlov (a small picturesque city in Southern Bohemia), Hluboka castle, village Holasovice, and Nazi concentration camp Terezín. We will also visit institutions for disabled or orphaned children. Students will have ample time to explore Prague and a free weekend to travel.
